How You Can Help

We can only continue to help because of the involvement from members of our community. You can make a difference in the lives of our client residents by:

  • Becoming a Volunteer
  • Mentoring a Child or Adult
  • Making Donations
  • Adopting a Facility
  • Clean-up/Painting Parties
  • Sponsoring a Fundraiser

American Family Housing is currently looking for someone like you to be a volunteer. If you have a caring heart and a few free hours, please give us a call at 714-897-3221 or click here to request a volunteer application.

There are many ways in which you can help, and nobody is too young or too old. The homeless have many needs, and they can only be solved if we work together. Here are some of the ways you can help and make a difference in someone life.

Children's Activities

Looking to make a difference in the life of a child? Help our parents as they attend workshops and seminars by watching after their children. American Family Housing has made this a time for children to learn manners, receive help on homework, and participate in creative activities like art, reading and games. Your help is needed. For more information, call 714-897-3221 and ask for our Children's Program Coordinator.

Office Support

Our corporate office is always busy with many projects and can use a variety of help to complete tasks. Assistance ranges from basic office tasks such as typing, filing, monthly mailers, stuffing envelopes, data entry, or organizing files, just to name a few. Call 714-897-3221 and ask for our Volunteer Coordinator.

Group Activities

We are looking for groups, sororities and companies from the community to help coordinate and organize on-going projects and fundraisers. Groups can be as big as 20 to one Girl Scout or Boy Scout working for a badge. The items we need your help with include: Food drives, Baby Diaper drives (sizes 4 and 5), Personal Hygiene drives, Towel and Washcloth drives. Projects to help improve our Shelter properties for our clients include: Spring-cleaning of properties and making picnic tables and toy boxes.

Holiday & Special Events

We need your time, talents, and caring hearts to bring happiness to AFH clients during the holiday season and special events. Make valentine cards for our clients, Gather new items for a Mother's Day treat for our Moms and Father's Day treats as well. Help hide Easter eggs and serve lunch at our annual Easter Egg Hunt picnic in April; help with our annual community Thanksgiving Dinner; help coordinate our Back to School Fair; or help us collect and wrap Christmas gifts for the children in our programs.

Self-Esteem Seminars

Opportunity for working professionals, educators, counselors and social workers to help our clients develop life skills, pursue goals and find role models to motivate them to reach their potential.

Women's and Men's Support Group

Speakers needed for monthly meetings to assist our women and men clients in developing a sense of self-worth and becoming independent. Topics of interest to our clients include career building, stress management and personal empowerment.

Interns

Interns will be trained in a professional work environment while gaining skills to provide quality services in the community. We are in need of energetic, active leaders who are looking to assist us and experience hands on training in various areas.

Development Fundraising Team

If you enjoy being involved in event planning, this is for you. Join our team as a committee member and participate in planning and coordinating annual events to raise funds to support our programs and services.

Time Out For Moms and Dads

To give our single mothers a well-deserved time out, American Family Housing has started a morning break time where moms and dads can sign up to take time for themselves, read a book or catch up on chores without worrying about what their children are doing. " Mom and Dads Time Outs" are on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11a.m. and each parent is entitled to two hours of time free. We are looking for groups of 5 with committeemen of 1-month volunteer time. This way our Mom and Dads get to know the volunteers and you get to know the children.

Your help can make a difference. Sign up to be a volunteer now!
